Turbo Snails (Turbo sp.) are popular members of marine aquarium Clean-Up Crews and there are a few different species in this genus of snails-Mexican Turbo Snails (Turbo fluctuosa), Chestnut Turbo snails (Turbo castanea), and Zebra Striped Turbo snails (Turbo sp.). All of these snails will stay about 2 inches in diameter and will help to eat nuisance hair algae as they graze along the glass and rockwork. Due to their slightly larger body, they have been known to knock over unattached corals in their quest for food. If they outpace the tank’s food supply, they can be fed nori, a veggie-based frozen food, or veggie-based pellet food. These invertebrates are sensitive to elevated nitrates, copper, and copper based medications as well as changes in the water quality so it is recommended to slowly drip acclimate them over the course of 1-2 hours.
